A hunger strike of the Cuban political prisoners in Holguin province
Political prisoners held in a jail of Holguin province in the East of Cuba are keeping a time-unlimited hunger strike since 15 of August. The dissidents demand from prison authorities that they be allowed to receive medicines and food for the prisoners suffering from chronic diseases.

There are seven political prisoners in Holguin prison - correspondent of the PRIMA news agency in Havana Adolfo Fernandez Sainz, Angel Moya Acosta, Antonio Diaz Sanchez, Arnaldo Ramos Lauzurique, Ivan Hernandez Carillo, Alfredo Dominguez and Mario Enrique Mayo.
Since May 15, political prisoners are held in solitary confinement in the regime's maximum security cells. The food in the prison is very bad, and every prisoner tries to receive food from relatives. The problem is especially serious for those suffering from illnesses of the digestive system.
Mario Enrique Mayo has a hemorroids problem. In the last days it had worsened and he is bleeding abundantly. After the demand of an improvement of the food the prison director answered that he should either stop eating or eat what they had.
On August, 15 this year Mario Enrique Mayo had a regular visit of his wife. The jailers prevented the prisoner from collecting medicine and food brought for him by his wife to his cell. In response, Mario Enrique declared an unlimited hunger strike. The rest of political prisoners joined his hunger strike the same day. According to the latest information, which was not confirmed officially by prison authorities, two of the men - Adolfo Fernandez Sainz and Mario Enrique Mayo - were taken to the prison medical unit after their condition worsened seriously.
