Best Turkmen pupils know “Ruhnama” best of all
The 2003 Best of Turkmen Pupils Competition results have been announced in the capital of Turkmenistan. That was the first government-sponsored intellectual-and-creative contest in the country. Leili Arslanova, a secondary school leaver from the Murgabsky district, Maryisky region, was pronounced the winner. She proved to be the best and quickest as far as the citation of “Ruhnama” goes. Her excellent knowledge of this spiritual guide for the Turkmen people authored by president Saparmurat Niyazov and of his verses secured her victory. Full Story...
Dissidents need no chieftains
On July 1, a seminar called “On the way to democracy in Cuba” took place in Madrid. Problems of Cuba and of the dissidence in the island were discussed. Among others, Vaclav Havel, former president of Czekh republic, and Miguel Angel Rodriguez, former president of Costa Rica, were present. Oswaldo Paya, one of the leaders of the dissidents, addressed the gathering by telephone from Havana. The purpose of the seminar was to find the ways for gaining international support for the inner opposition in Cuba. Turkey decides to reconcile Armenia with Azerbaijan

There is no sex in Kirghizia but many cases of AIDS
According to Kirghizia’s Health Ministry, there are 419 registered cases of AIDS in the republic, including foreign nationals. Nearly half of them live in the south, in Osh Region where, paradoxically, the influence of Islam is much stronger than in the north of the country. Cuban dissidents address to the free world
On June 25 it was 100 days since the beginning of a repression campaign initiated in March of this year against dissidents and independent journalists in Cuba. On the eve of this day, Cuban minister of the foreign affairs Felipe Perez Roque have introduced a book “Los Disidentes” (Dissidents), designed to discredit opposition in the eyes of citizen, to the media.
